Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Tuesday, Nov 30: At 10:55 am staff at Wild Rose Casino reported an unknown driver had struck a light pole in the parking lot. The estimate for damages to the light pole is $3,200. They are reviewing video to help identify the vehicle involved.
Monday, Nov. 29: At 2:33 pm staff at Greene County HS requested an officer for a student who had been caught with a bottle of alcohol. The officer removed the student to be picked up at the LEC by a parent. The officer will send a charge to the juvenile court for a 15-year-old female for possession of alcohol under legal age.

Wednesday, Nov. 24: At 8:38 am an officer responded to a vehicle-deer accident at County Road E-53 (235th St) and Kirkwood Ave west of Jefferson. A deer jumped from the ditch and struck the front of a 2016 Diamond cargo trailer owned by John McConnell of Jefferson. The trailer received an estimated $850.00 in damages. The tow vehicle was not damaged.
Tuesday, Nov. 23: At 8 am an officer started an investigation into the theft of two coats from 777 Wild Rose Lane. At 12:32 pm staff at Oly’s Corner reported a gas drive off. The subject left without paying for $41.41 in fuel. At 5:07 pm an officer investigated a hit and run accident in the 1200 block of N. Elm St. A driver pulled from the Fareway parking lot driveway and struck a passing 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix owned and driven by Brandon Cornelius of Farnhamville. The unnamed driver left the scene of the accident southbound on Elm. Damage to Cornelius’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. The officer is working to identify the driver and vehicle that left the scene. At 7:19 pm staff at Oly’s Corner advised they had located the driver from the earlier gas drive off at a local hotel. The officer spoke to the owner of the vehicle, who paid the debt to Oly’s.

Sunday, Nov. 21: At 10:37 pm a complainant requested to speak with an officer regarding questions of property being withheld from her. She also made a report of possible harassment having occurred. The officer is investigating.
Saturday, Nov. 20: At 6:39 pm Arlena Hamling of Jefferson reported a two-vehicle car accident having occurred in a private parking area in the 100 block of N. Grimmell Rd. The officer’s investigation showed Kayla Matteson of Jefferson was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Venture in a private parking area. To the rear of her vehicle was Hamling’s an unoccupied 2011 Nissan Altima. As Matteson backed her vehicle southbound the rear of it contacted the right side of Hamling’s vehicle. Damage to each vehicle was estimated to be $1,500. No citations were issued due to the accident occurring on private property. At 8 pm an anonymous caller advised of an unattended fire near the intersection of N. High and W. Head Sts. The officer located the fire on private property. Materials other than yard waste were being burned and the fire was not being supervised. The officer spoke with the resident who had lit the fire. The officer advised him of the violations and he extinguished the fire.
Friday, Nov. 19: At 10:26 am an employee at A & W reported two stray dogs running loose in the 300 block of N. Elm St. The officer was able to find the dogs’ owner and return them.

Wednesday, Nov. 17: At 11:19 am staff from Imagine the Possibilities spoke with an officer concerning a trespassing event at a residence in the 600 block of S. Wilson Ave. The officer is investigating.
Tuesday, Nov. 16: At 9:48 am an officer was requested to check on a cow on Highway 30 near Finn Pond west of Jefferson. The cow jumped the fence and went back into the field. The officer called and advised the owner of the event. At 3:30 pm a complainant reported a juvenile male doing through a mailbox in the 100 block of W. Vest St.The officer has developed a suspect and is investigating. At 5:40 pm an officer investigated a three- vehicle accident in the 1200 block of N. Elm St. Kim Hill of Jefferson was southbound in the inside lane driving her 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Hill did not yield to an oncoming vehicle while making a left turn into Fareway and struck a northbound 2007 Dodge Charger driven by Kaine Herrington of Fort Dodge. The collision pushed the Ford Ranger into a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country minivan owned and operated by Stephanie Bailey of Churdan. Bailey was in the parking lot driveway, waiting to enter onto Elm St. All vehicles involved suffered damage. Hill was cited for failure to yield upon a left turn.
Monday, Nov. 15: At 9:30 am a complainant spoke with an officer concerning his son being assaulted at school by another student. The complainant did not think the school had handled the situation properly. The officer has spoken with a school official, who is still investigating the issue. At 11:40 am staff at Oly’s Corner reported a gas drive-off in the amount of $26.61. The officer has identified the subject from video and is working to reach them and advise them to return to the business and pay for the fuel. At 12:32 pm a Department of Human Services caseworker advised an officer that an investigation has begun concerning a child being sexually assaulted in Jefferson several years ago. The officer will assist DHS with the investigation. At 3:18 pm an officer arrested John Taylor Roberts, 23, of Jefferson on an outstanding Cass County warrant for failure to appear*. At 7 pm an officer assisted a deputy near Kirkwood Ave and 230th St. A subject was reported to be walking on the train tracks with a flashlight. A subject was located in the area looking for loose cattle. At 9:51 pm officers were advised a juvenile female had not returned home and had not been seen since she left for school in the morning. The officer entered the subject into NCIC as a missing person. Perry PD was advised, as it was believed the female may be in Perry.
Sunday, Nov. 14: At 7:46 am Alisha Dehoet of Jefferson reported having been involved in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 4 near the intersection with 190th St north of Jefferson. A Greene County deputy requested a Jefferson PD officer respond to the scene to assist. The officer learned Dehoet was southbound driving a 2010 Hyundai Genesis when she lost control of the vehicle due to high winds. The car went partly into the west ditch. The vehicle may have sustained damage to the undercarriage, but no estimate of the damage could be given. At 9:40 pm an officer was dispatched to Wild Rose Casino for a report of trespassing. Staff reported a female who had signed a lifetime self-exclusion form was on the gaming floor. Brandi Garrett of Lohrville was charged with trespass- first offense. ***** As a result of a theft investigation started on 11/03, a warrant was issued for Todd Allen Cleverley of Jefferson for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*.
Saturday, Nov. 13: At 934 am an employee of Ace Hardware reported an unknown driver had hit a light pole in the parking lot during the overnight hours. The light pole sustained an unknown amount of damage and the officer is investigating.
Friday, Nov. 12: At 10:08 am management at Fareway report a suspected shoplifter on the property. An officer investigated. The officer found stolen property valued at $3.49 in the possession of a male customer. As a result of the investigation, Cody Lee Hiers of Scranton was charged with theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. At 8:27 pm a complainant reported a suspected assault having occurred at Greene County Elementary earlier that day. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Nov. 10: At 8:29 am an officer began an investigation after being advised that a student was caught with vaping products at Greene County High School. At 5:49 pm a caller advised of a tree branch in the roadway in the 300 block of E. Monroe St. The officer removed the branch from the roadway. At 6:54 pm a caller advised of a large tree branch in the street in the 500 block of S. Vine St. The officer contacted the public works director, who had the branch removed with the city’s payloader. At 11:13 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 600 block of E. Adams St for an argument between family members. The officer spoke to all parties involved and determined the issue was civil in nature. As the officer was leaving the area, he noticed one of the subjects was now walking away from the residence. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Andrew Montoya, 23, of Jefferson for pubic intoxication (simple misdemeanor)*.
Tuesday, Nov. 9: At 4:07 pm an officer was advised a child had been struck by a car at W. Lincoln Way and Elm St. The officer met with the driver of the vehicle and was advised the child advised he was fine and rode away on the bicycle. The vehicle was not damaged in the incident. The officers were unable to locate the child.
Monday, Nov. 8: At 6:13 pm an officer was sent to Highway 4 south of Jefferson near the river bridge for a deer in the roadway. The deer was dragged off the road and the officer contacted the DOT to remove it from the roadside.
Sunday, Sept. 7: At 6:51 pm a complainant requested officers at a residence in the 500 block of S. Wilson Ave for a domestic fight in progress. The officer interviewed numerous subjects located at the residence. The officer arrested Bradlee Beadle, 51, of Jefferson, and charged him with domestic abuse assault- first offense (simple misdemeanor)*.
Saturday, Nov. 6: At 2:22 pm a caller spoke with an officer about neighborhood cats entering her yard and urinating on her deck furniture. The officer advised of city ordinances that could be used to end this issue. The caller wanted to talk it over with her husband before moving forward.
Friday, Nov. 5: At 3:04 pm a complainant reported a stray dog in the 700 block of S. Elm St. The officer captured the dog and placed it in the animal holding facility. At 8:30 pm an officer performed a traffic stop on a speeding driver on Highway 30 at Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Humberto Garcia, 37, of Rio Grande City, TX, for operating while intoxicated- second offense (aggravated misdemeanor)*. Garcia was also cited for excessive speed. At 9:51 pm staff at HyVee reported a male came in the business and again attempted to use a stolen check to purchase items. The male is the subject of a Boone County criminal Investigation, and the information was forwarded to the Boone officer. The store did not accept the check and suffered no loss.
Thursday, Nov. 4: At 11:43 am an officer was dispatched to Regency Park to take a report in reference to an allegation of abuse. The allegation has been reported to the appropriate state agency for investigation. At 7 pm an officer was dispatched to the intersection of Highway 30 and N. Mulberry St for a report of the driver of a passenger vehicle striking the rear of a semi tractor-trailer. No injuries were reported. Roger Beckman of Carroll was eastbound driving the semi tractor-trailer. He was waiting to make a left turn onto Mulberry St. Thomas Kiylahan of Boone was behind Beckman. He struct the rear of the trailer, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage to his 2007 Dodge Charger SXT. Damage to the trailer was estimated at $5,000. Kiylahan was cited for failure to stop within an assured clear distance ahead.
Wednesday, Nov. 3: At 10:46 am staff at HyVee reported a subject had purchased items and gift cards with a fraudulent check. The officer learned that Boone County is working a case involving the subject. Boone County will add this investigation and any charges to their investigation. At 4:39 pm staff at the Greene County Medical Center emergency room requested an officer for a patient who had been bitten by a dog. The officer learned a child had been playing with children at 801 W. Mahlon St. The children caught the dog, which had gotten loose from the residence. As they took the dog back into the residence, the animal bit the child’s shin area. The owner of the animal advised the officer that they are choosing to have the animal destroyed and will provided proof of this to the officer. They are also going to gather proof of rabies vaccination. At 6:54 pm staff at HyVee reported a male had left the store without paying for a bottle of vodka. Video shows the male remove the item from the shelf and place it in his bag before leaving the business. The officer is investigating. The vodka is valued at $7.88.
Tuesday, Nov. 2: At 4:03 am an officer assisted a deputy who was involved in a high-speed chase near 110th St and O Ave in Dawson Township. The deputy will handle all charges in the matter. At 10:39 am a complainant reported criminal mischief to her vehicle in the 600 block of W. State St. Someone had wrapped a plastic pop ring around her mirror. No damage was reported. At 7:17 pm a complainant captured a stray dog in the 600 block of W. Madison St. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility.
Monday, Nov. 1: At 12:46 pm a caller advised they had found a container of possible marijuana in the road in the 600 block of S. Locust St. The officer will obtain a destroy order from the court to dispose of the marijuana.
